Redell Olsen
Redell Olsen makes work in poetry and visual media, including film, bookarts and performance. In 2020-21 she was the recipient of the DARE Art prize for a project in collaboration with scientists at the University of Leeds and in association with Opera North, The Tetley, Leeds and The Museum of Science and Media in Bradford. Her film, Now Circa (1918): a film in response to the anniversary of 100 years of female suffrage in the UK, was shortlisted for 'Best Research Film of the Year' at the AHRC Research in Film Awards in 2018. Her poetry collections include Film Poems (Les Figues, 2014), which includes the texts for her films and performances from 2007--2012 and 'Punk Faun: a bar rock pastel' (Subpress, 2012), 'Secure Portable Space' (Reality Street, 2004), 'Book of the Fur' (rem press 2000), and, in collaboration with the bookartist Susan Johanknecht, 'Here Are My Instructions' (Gefn, 2004). She has published critical essays on poetry and poetics and the visual arts. She was the Judith E. Wilson Poetry Fellow at the University of Cambridge for 2013-14. She is currently the Director of the Poetics Research Centre at Royal Holloway, University of London, where she lectures and supervises on poetry, poetics and the visual arts and practice-based research.
